About the Artist
Sharon Stephan
Hi, I'm Sharon, the person behind Paintingllady.com, and I want to tell you a bit about myself. I'm a retired nurse, was a nurse for almost 40 years, and now I have the time to do what I love the most - art! I have had a lifetime interest in art but little time to indulge myself due to my job, my home, and my identical twin daughters. Over the years I have tried many forms of artistic expression, ceramics, painting, home decorating, gardening, woodwork, furniture refinishing, paint pouring, resin work, and crafts such as crocheting and knitting. Articles in my home reflect the different periods in my art journey. I also love supporting local artists and I have many pieces of art from talented local people.
I have some formal education consisting of workshops and lessons from the local art school. Mostly, I find beauty in the world around me and I'm happiest when I can create something that reflects what I see. That may be a rosy glow in a child's face or a particular purple shadow in the snow. Right now I'm, dabbling in acrylic painting and I would say my style is impressionistic. While I can create an exact replica, I prefer to add colour and fun to my work. I'm trying my hand at landscapes, portraits, still life, florals and everything in between.
I think that I'm most proud of my ladies at the beach series. I am trying to portray women who look like women. Ones whose bodies are not perfect. I am currently adding to that series so there will be more to come!
I have sold several pieces through galleries, word of mouth and to people who see my work on my website. I prefer to work on cradled birch although every picture I create is now done on acrylic paper first (storage can be a problem) Often I will do the same piece over several times in order to get it right. I am currently working in themes as you will note on my site. This allows me to explore the same subject from different angles and light sources.
Please feel free to browse and if anything catches your eye send me a request. I am most happy when I see a piece of my art go to someone who loves it as much as I loved creating it. (I have shipped across Canada and into the United States).
